Education

Bert holds a Master in Computer Science from Brussels Free University (VUB, summa cum laude) and a Master of Arts in Music, Science and Technology from Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). Bert speaks English, Dutch and French.

Bert has over 20 years of experience writing software and designing hardware, including for his consumer electronics company Percussa, and his consulting clients. See below for a list of key projects completed and successfully delivered:

  • Developed real-time computer vision software controlling audio DSP algorithms

  • Developed algorithmic trading framework and low latency exchange connectivity for trading

  • Developed GPU accelerated data visualisation tool in C++ using OpenGL to analyze very large exchange market data sets

  • Developed Linux based multichannel audio DSP platform

  • Developed wireless protocol and input devices for tangible user interface system

Teaching

As a teaching assistant, Bert Schiettecatte gained experience explaining complex topics in information theory and digital signal processing to graduate students at Leuven Catholic University (KUL) and Brussels Free University (VUB).

Awards

Bert received the Qwartz Max Mathews Award for inventing AudioCubes, a tangible user interface system. Bert previously founded Percussa, a pro-audio and music technology company, for which he designed multiple successful products, including AudioCubes.

Bert is a fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation (BAEF), a honorary Fullbright fellow, and is a recipient of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) Educational Foundation Grant.
